Q and A with the Founder of Zi Performance Organics

1. What was the initial inspiration for starting Zi Sanzi Performance Organics? I noticed how Rob knew all of the ingredients in our existing products. He would tell me the bad ones that he would remove to make it a healthier product and what he would put in to make it a better product, so I told him he should make his own products. Many walks on our vacation were spent walking the beach and planning our future products.

2. Can you tell us about your journey from the concept to the launch of your first product? Yes, our first attempt was not a success. We received our first product sample and it seemed fine, so we approved the sample. We had our shampoo on the shelves for sale about a month, and we had a client ask if she could get one of each? We looked closer and some of the product was separating, making it look different. She thought one was shampoo and the other conditioner. Needless to say, there were issues, so we had to start all over again. We almost gave up, but something told us not to, so we just kept hurdling each obstacle as they came.

3. What are the core values of Zi Sanzi Performance Organics and how do they influence your products? Rob really wanted to formulate a healthy alternative for hair care that still delivered great salon-quality results. So, we make it our mission to make each product with the healthiest ingredients possible and still deliver great hair results.

4. How does Zi Sanzi Performance Organics differentiate itself in the crowded organic beauty market? There are other products that are clean and natural made with organic ingredients. The thing that sets us apart from our competitors is the fact that Zi products are high performance; they give you great salon-quality results.

5. What role does customer feedback play in the development of your products? Customer feedback is everything! All of our products were tested on our salon clients while in R&D. We listened to what they wanted in their hair care products and made adjustments to our formulas to make our clients as happy as possible.

6. As a founder, what has been your biggest learning experience running Zi Sanzi Performance Organics? We have learned a lot! One of the most important things is that it is not easy to create your own product line, but when you really believe in what you are doing, you have to just keep doing it, no matter what!

7. What is your favorite product from Zi Sanzi Performance Organics, and why? That is a really hard question! If I have to pick just one, I would say the smoothing cream! It is the best and most versatile styling product that I have ever used in the 35 years that I have been doing hair!

8. Can you share a memorable story about a customer impacted by your products? There are a lot of memorable ones, but the one that really meant so much was when we had a client tell us that they forgot their products and had to use the products provided by the hotel. She said that it was a high-end hotel with high-end complimentary products. She said that her hair didn’t even feel close to how our products make her hair feel and couldn’t wait to get home to her Zi products. She said, "I realized then just how great your products really are!"

9. Looking ahead, what new initiatives or products can customers expect in the next year? There are many upcoming products in the pipeline! We are always thinking about how we can make better, healthier products for our clients and everyone! We are extremely excited about the future of Zi!
